MORGION Commence Work On Third CD, Announce Split With Label
August 9, 2002Californian death-doomsters MORGION have commenced the recording sessions for their third full-length album, Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth, with producer Matthias Scheeberger for a tentative late 2002/early 2003 release through an as-yet-undetermined label. Among the tracks set to appear on the CD are the following:
01. Ebb Tide
02. The Mourner's Oak
03. A Slow Succumbing
04. Cairn
The first MORGION album to feature new members Justin Christian (bass),Peter Surowski (synths) and Adrian Leroux (vocals, formerly of MINDROT),Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth will also mark the band's debut release since their split with Relapse Records, who had issued MORGION's previous two full-length efforts, 1997's Among Majestic Ruin and 1999's Solinari.
“At first we thought Relapse would be great because we would be so diverse compared to the rest of the roster, but that faded quickly," the band said in an official statement announcing their split with the company. "We realized we should be with a label that has a working knowledge of the doom scene and support other bands of the same genre. I give them lots of credit for wanting to spread their horizons a bit but since most of their dabblings into the doom arena fell short for them financially, they stopped branching out and stuck to what they're known for. Obviously, it is hard to take a doom band seriously when sided with twenty grindcore/hardcore bands we really feel a need to join with other bands of the same genre. In the end, I think both MORGION and Relapse are happy with what we're accomplished in the past, but we've taken it as far as we could together."
